The Mountain

A werewolf goes searching for something buried.

The Mountain, a comic written and illustrated by me. Originally published in A Howl: An Indigenous Anthology of Wolves, Werewolves, and Rougarou, edited by Elizabeth LaPensee, published by Native Realities Press in 2022.

It was very exciting for me to be published in an anthology that also featured Stephen Graham Jones.

I wish I still had the original, larger, clearer files for this piece. My tablet fell in a lake. It’s hard to make out small details, which there are a lot of. Especially on pages five and seven. On page five, you can follow the werewolf’s journey through the underground world, past the remnants of old buried things. On page seven, if you know your history, you might be able to recognize specific historical events I was depicting. I intended the seventh page to be a sort of Bosch-ian panoply of local atrocities, and it made me very emotional to draw. I do hope that someday I am able to recover the full-sized file.
